HAYWARD -- A school district administrator has been chosen as the superintendent of the Juneau, Alaska, school district.
Mark Miller will start his new job in July. His current two-year contract as assistant superintendent of human resources for the Hayward district ends June 30.
The Juneau school board selected Miller on Monday. The Alaskan school district is about a fourth of the size of Hayward's, with 5,000 students and two high schools, Miller said Wednesday. This will be Miller's first job as superintendent.
"There's no way Juneau would have considered me if I had not had my experience in Hayward," he said.
Salary negotiations have just started; the position was advertised at $162,000.
