A man died early Friday after a fire broke out at a mobile home in unincorporated Hayward, authorities said.
The one-alarm blaze in the 20600 block of Fuchsia Court, in the area known as Cherryland, was reported around 3 a.m., Alameda County Fire Department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
Fire crews encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the mobile home, which was about 50 feet long and 15 feet tall, Knowles said.
After crews forced their way in, they found the man dead about 10 feet from the front door, she said. His identification was not released, pending notification of relatives. Neighbors told officials he was in his 50s.
The Alameda County Sheriff's Office put up tape and was treating the incident as a crime scene, per usual protocol, Knowles said. Investigators were trying to determine whether the man was the homeowner.
Firefighters controlled the blaze in about 20 minutes, but the mobile home was destroyed, Knowles said. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Nobody else was injured.
