ANTIOCH -- Authorities on Monday identified an Oakland man who died while fishing with friends near the Antioch Marina over the weekend.

Carlos Arriola, 52, was on a Father's Day outing with a church group when he wound up underwater about 10:15 a.m. Sunday, police said. Arriola had waded into the water to untangle a line, and he apparently slipped and drowned, police said. The group was in the area of the Dow Wetlands Preserve when Arriola went into the water.

The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office was scheduled to perform an autopsy later Monday to determine whether Arriola hit his head on a rock under the water.

Police said it was not clear if any other people on the trip saw Arriola slip and fall. Members of the group performed CPR, but Arriola was pronounced dead at the scene, Antioch police Lt. John Vanderklugt said.
