OAKLAND -- A 42-year-old man was hospitalized after he was shot early Tuesday inside a friend's apartment in East Oakland, police said.
The shooting happened about 4:15 a.m. in the 4500 block of San Carlos Avenue, several blocks from Fremont High School.
The man was in his friend's second-floor apartment when he heard something outside in the rear. When he went to investigate, someone started shooting at him, with a bullet going through a sliding-glass door and hitting him in the shoulder, police said. The friend was not injured.
The man, whose name was not released, was able to drive himself to a hospital where he was in stable condition. Police said he was uncooperative with officers at the hospital.
A motive has not been determined yet but police have not ruled out the possibility the man was being targeted for robbery. No arrests have been made.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the gunman. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
