MARTINEZ -- The Contra Costa County Civil grand jury has published its roster of grand jurors for the 2014-15 term.

The 19 members were selected after screening and interviews by Superior Court judges.

The Civil grand jury's primary task is to examine the functioning of county, city and other government agencies including special districts and joint powers agencies, in particular whether public funds are properly handled and audited.

Grand jurors are selected with a view to ensuring representation from all five of the county's supervisorial districts. The list of 2014-15 grand jurors, by district, with their community of residence, is:

  • District 1: Ronald Casimere, El Sobrante; Ollie Warner, San Pablo

  • District 2: Lynda J. Hinds and Sherry G. Rufini, both of Alamo; Michael Smith, Danville; David Van Etten, Lafayette; Frank Darling, John Kidder and Barbara Lemmer, all of Orinda; Dwight Nelsen, San Ramon

  • District 3: Juan Castillo, Laine Lawrence and Janet Melloni, all of Brentwood.

  • District 4: Randy Horton and Marc Santacroce, both of Concord; Martin Brown and Carol Edlund, both of Walnut Creek.

  • District 5: Judy Yamamoto, Hercules; Lucinda Cartwright, Martinez.

The Civil grand jury acts as the public's watchdog by investigating complaints. Referrals are handled confidentially, and grand jurors are sworn to secrecy. The grand jury can be contacted by mail to Contra Costa County grand jury, 725 Court St., Martinez, CA 94553
