UNION CITY -- A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was unharmed after a driver rammed his motorcycle while trying to flee authorities on Friday, police said.
The suspect pulled over when the officer flashed his lights just before 4:45 p.m. while going southbound on Interstate 880, police said. Officers eventually found out the BMW Z3 convertible was stolen and confronted the man, but he tried to flee by backing up the BMW, running into the motorcycle.
The officer was not on the bike when the suspect backed up and was uninjured, police said. The suspect exited the Decoto Road offramp and tried to escape east on the road through Fremont and into Union City. During his escape, the suspect caused two collisions on Decoto Road, police said, neither of which caused any injuries.
Union City and Fremont police found the BMW abandoned in Union City, and Union City police eventually arrested the suspect near City Hall. Authorities did not release his identity.
Police did not say what charges the suspect may face.
