MARTINEZ -- Two men suspected of stealing a car and leading officers on a high-speed chase were arrested Tuesday, police said.
Mateo Bustos, 25, of Alameda and 26-year-old Edward Garafalo, of Martinez, were found in a Hercules apartment complex in the 1200 block of Willow Avenue by officers using a police dog, after leading police on chase Tuesday morning, Martinez police Cpl. Patrick Salamid said.
One officer suffered minor injuries during the arrest and was treated at the scene and released.
The chase began after police spotted a car reported stolen during a residential burglary Monday night in the 200 block of Park Street in Martinez, Salamid said. Two guns also were reported stolen in that burglary.
Police saw the stolen car in the 1600 block of Berrellessa Street with three people inside, Salamid said. When police began to follow, the car took off. The chase ended when the stolen vehicle overturned, Salamid said. The three men inside the car then fled on foot, with Bustos and Garafalo captured in an adjacent apartment.
The third person inside the car was not located, Salamid said.
Bustos and Garafalo were treated for minor injuries then arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property, felony evasion and resisting arrest. They were taken to county jail in Martinez, where Bustos was being held in lieu of $91,000 bail and Garafalo in lieu of $40,000 bail.
