HAYWARD -- An unknown suspect fired seven rounds into a car in the city's Harder-Tennyson neighborhood Tuesday night, but the vehicle's passengers were unscathed, police said.

No one else, including passersby in the area, were injured by the barrage of bullets, Lt. Bobbie Koller said.

Officers were dispatched at 9:45 p.m. to Gading Road at West Harder Road for a report of a drive-by shooting, Koller said.

A 32-year-old man told police that he and a 21-year-old friend were stopped at a traffic light in his car when a small, 90s dark-colored sedan with about four people in it, pulled up next to them.

The man said that one of the people in the sedan fired seven shots at the car, striking it several times.

Nobody was injured and the victims told police they did not know the suspects, or why they shot at them.

The shooting remained under investigation on Wednesday, Koller said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 510-293-7000 or the anonymous tip line: 510-293-7197.
