SAN FRANCISCO -- An Oakland industrial designer died after collapsing while skateboarding in San Francisco on Tuesday morning.
George Schnakenberg III, 38, rode a motorized skateboard in a bike lane in the 600 block of Eighth Street when he suddenly collapsed, San Francisco police officials said.
Several witnesses reported to investigators that Schnakenberg fell while riding and may have hit a parked car afterward.
He was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital.
In 2012, Schnakenberg started Infinitive Collective, an industrial design consulting firm, where he was the design director. He focused on alternative energy and sustainable product solutions.
He was also a co-founder and the design director of San Francisco-based Sollega Inc., according to online profiles. The company manufactures sustainable solar racking solutions
He worked in the design industry for more than 17 years and designed products for a wide range of clients, such as Enphase Energy, Nike and TiVo.
