HAYWARD -- A series of six free Sunday outdoor concerts opening Aug. 10, will feature an eclectic mix of genres -- from blues, salsa and rock 'n' roll to an orchestra and Celtic music.

Although free, donations received at the events will be used to help local nonprofit groups.

Chris Marquis & Company and the Sycamore 129 Blues Band will perform at the first concert Aug. 10; donations go to Family Emergency Shelter Coalition. Former Councilman Mark Salinas will be guest chef.

The group 3 O'Clock Jump will play big band music Aug. 24. Sharing the stage will be the Hayward La Honda Music Camp All Stars, with donations benefiting the nonprofit camp.

No Fly List and Two of Us plan a Beatles tribute Sept. 7. Mt. Eden High School choir members will sing, with donations going to the choir.

What's Up Big Band and the Mt. Eden High School orchestra, band and jazz band members take the stage Sept. 14; donations will benefit the school's instrumental program.

The San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers with The Rolling Drones will perform Celtic music Sept. 21; donations to the Hayward Education Foundation, which provides grants to school teachers. Hayward Councilman Francisco Zermeño will be the guest chef.

Uncle Rico's Original Rock 'n' Roll featuring Hypnotones and the Hayward High School marching band and jazz band members will finish the series Sept. 28. Donations to the school's instrumental program.

The concert series is sponsored by Hayward Odd Fellows Sycamore Lodge #129 in partnership with the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District. All concerts are 1 to 5 p.m. at the park's band shell, 24176 Mission Blvd., next to the Hayward Plunge.

Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Chalk will be provided for anyone wanting to draw pictures on the sidewalks.
