OAKLAND -- A 21-year-old Oakland man was killed Thursday night in a drive-by shooting near the Fruitvale district in East Oakland, police said.

The man was identified as Daniel Ellis, who lived in the area, police said.

The shooting happened about 7:20 p.m. Thursday in the 2700 block of International Boulevard.

Sgt. Eric Milina said Friday that Ellis was walking on the sidewalk when someone began shooting at him from a car driving westbound on International.

Ellis was hit by gunfire and made it to the 1400 block of Mitchell Street, a short distance away, where he collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Milina said police have not found a motive for the killing and no arrests have been made.
