Lanes open on I-580 after big rig overturns

All lanes of traffic on Interstate 580 were reopened five hours after a big rig overturned early Friday morning, slowing the commute to a crawl, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck, traveling westbound on I-580 near the Vasco Road exit, crashed into the center divide about 4:15 a.m., Officer Eric Anderson said.

Several lanes in both directions were closed shortly after and all lanes were reopened by 9:15 a.m. It was not known immediately what caused the wreck, but officials said another car may have stalled and that the big-rig may have been trying to avoid it.

One person was hospitalized with a complaint of pain, though the injury was not considered serious, Anderson said. It was not known if the injured person was the driver of the big-rig.

It was the second time this week a big-rig crash snarled traffic during the morning commute on I-580 in the Livermore area. On Monday, a truck carrying produce overturned in westbound lanes near Greenville Road.
