OAKLAND -- A pick-up truck hauling diesel fuel spilled an estimated 40 gallons after catching on fire Tuesday near Highway 13.
The incident occurred in the 2900 block of Joaquin Miller Road at 3:30 p.m. and was caused by a mechanical malfunction, said Oakland Fire Battalion Chief James Bowron. The accident prompted authorities to close the northbound onramp to Highway 13 for about an hour as crews worked to remove the slick from the roadway and storm drains.
No injuries were reported, although the truck was completed destroyed. Officials with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife were notified to monitor the nearby waterways.
