RICHMOND -- A 34-year-old man was arrested after allegedly punching a woman and stealing her phone as she walked home early Sunday, authorities said.
The woman was walking in the 6100 block of Panama Avenue in the Richmond Annex neighborhood at 2:20 a.m. when a man and woman walked up to her, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said. The man struck her at least once and ran off with her phone, Abetkov said.
A short time later, officers were headed to a report of a residential burglary in another part of Richmond when they spotted a man, later identified as Tiocha Schultz, and woman matching the suspects in the earlier robbery. The pair were detained and held as police brought the victim to the identify them, Abetkov said.
She positively identified Schultz as her attacker, according to police. Schultz, a Richmond resident, was arrested on suspicion of strong-arm robbery and taken to County Jail in Martinez.
The woman he was with was not arrested.
