DANVILLE -- An 18-year-old man allegedly drove a car into a home early Tuesday morning, causing a gas leak and forcing the evacuation of five houses.
Danville resident Shae Kapulica was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, after he failed to make a turn at the corner of Westridge Avenue and Midland Way at 12:40 a.m., Lt. Allan Shields said.
Kapulica's Audi A4 smashed into a home at the intersection and broke the residential gas line, Shields said.
Gas leaked from the broken line for about an hour until PG&E crews were able to stop it at 3:37 a.m., San Ramon Valley Fire spokeswoman Kim French said. Three houses adjacent to the damaged home, plus another behind it, were evacuated. Residents were allowed to return after PG&E crews capped the leak, French said.
Contra Costa Hazardous Material crews cleaned up the leak. The crash and leak did not cause any injuries.
