MARTINEZ -- The 10th annual Recovery Walk will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 20 to support Contra Costa residents who are overcoming addiction to alcohol or other drugs. The walk, which will take participants from Martinez' Waterfront Park through downtown and back to the park, is part of National Recovery Month, an observance in September to support people who are recovering from addiction, promote treatment and recovery options, and urge communities to help prevent alcohol and drug abuse.

Admission is free.

Festivities will include food, music, information booths and speakers. Anyone who is in recovery, supporting someone in recovery or who wants to offer support is welcome, according to the Contra Costa County Health Services Department, whose Behavioral Health Division's Alcohol & Other Drugs Program is a co-sponsor of the event.

The organizer of the Recovery Walk is Support 4 Recovery, Inc., a community nonprofit group.

Free lunches and wristbands will be provided to the first 500 registered participants. T-shirts celebrating the event will be available to the first 450 registrants; the organizer requests a $5 donation.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will start at Martinez Waterfront Park, Ferry Street and Joe DiMaggio Drive, Martinez. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
