RODEO -- Phillips 66 has agreed to pay $6,000 in fines to the state for exceeding discharge limits for selenium on two different occasions at its Rodeo refinery along San Pablo Bay.

The effluent violations, according to a complaint by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, occurred July 2, 2012 and Sept. 5, 2012.

In a letter to the board dated Tuesday, Phillips agreed to waive its right to a hearing and to settle the matter under the board's Expedited Payment Program. The settlement is pending acceptance by the board's executive officer following a public comment period that runs until 5 p.m. on Feb. 28.

Phillips 66, headquartered in Houston, reported about $5.4 billion in adjusted earnings in 2012, according to that year's annual report, the latest available online.

Public comments can be emailed to the board at info2@waterboards.ca.gov.
