Stalling problem: Recalled in August were 1.13 million Corolla sedans and Matrix hatchbacks from the 2005-2008 model years, sold in North America. A defective engine control module could cause failure to start, harsh shifting, or stalling.

Faulty engines: Recalled in July were 270,000 vehicles, seven models of Lexus sedan plus the Asian model Toyota Crown. Flaws in valve springs could make the vehicle stall while it's moving.

Unexpected slowing: Recalled in April were Sequoia SUVs from the 2003 model year.

Rollover risk: Toyota said on April 19 that by the end of the month it would recall all 2010 Lexus GX 460s for a software update to the Vehicle Stability Control system. A courtesy vehicle will be provided to any owner who does not wish to drive the GX 460 until the recall work is completed.

Brake delay: Recalled Feb. 9 for a possible delay in brake activation under certain conditions are 133,000 2010 Prius hybrids and 14,500 Lexus HS250h hybrids in the United States.

Brake fluid leak: Also Feb. 9, Toyota recalled 7,300 four-cylinder Camry sedans from early in the 2010 model year.

Sticking gas pedal: The Jan. 21 recall affects 2.3 million U.S. vehicles with the potential for sticking gas pedals because of wear on the friction shoe. They include certain 2009-2010 RAV4s, certain 2009-2010 Corollas, the 2009-2010 Matrix, the 2005-2010 Avalon, certain 2007-2010 Camrys, certain 2010 Highlanders, the 2007-2010 Tundra and the 2008-2010 Sequoia.

Not affected by that recall are Highlander hybrids and Camry hybrids, as well as Highlander, Camry, RAV4 and Corolla models with vehicle identification numbers that begin with a "J." The VIN is a 17-character sequence of numbers and letters typically displayed on the driver's side at the front of the dashboard and on the pillar.

Floor mat problem:The Sept. 29 recall affects 3.8 million U.S. vehicles whose removable floor mats could cause the accelerator to stick open: 2007-2010 Camrys, 2005-2010 Avalons, 2004-2009 Priuses, 2005-2010 Tacomas, 2007-2010 Tundras, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350s and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250s and IS350s.
