Blackstone Group has submitted a preliminary and indicative offer to Dell's special committee, which is exploring alternatives to the $24.4 billion takeover offer by Michael Dell and Silver Lake, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The details of Blackstone's offer were not immediately clear. Blackstone declined to comment.
A spokesman for Dell, the world's No. 3 PC maker, could not immediately be reached for comment.
It was not immediately clear if other parties also submitted offers for Dell.
The New York-based private equity firm conducted due diligence on Dell ahead of the March 22 expiration of a so-called "go-shop" period that offers interested parties the opportunity to outbid a consortium led by founder Michael Dell and Silver Lake Partners that has agreed to take the company private for $24.4 billion.
