OAKLAND -- Vintage clothing store Mercy Vintage Now is unloading clothes from the closet of rock artist Kim Gordon, founding member of experimental rock band Sonic Youth, during a one-week sale that will showcase fashion from the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

Gordon is best known for pioneering experimental and noise rock -- first as singer and bassist for Sonic Youth, which became the touchstone Indie rockers in the 1980s, and more recently with guitar duo Body/Head, which is currently touring to promote a new album. But Gordon is also a visual artist and fashion icon, designing clothes for skate-inspired line X-Girl and, more recently, a more sophisticated line for French brand Surface to Air.

Mercy Vintage Now, a small retail shop on Piedmont Avenue, will showcase Gordon's own wardrobe, a collection of outfits from Gordon's own fashion line and designers such as Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs. The clothes -- some of which Gordon has worn for on-stage performances -- will be sold online at mercyvintage.com for one week starting on Saturday.
