Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo is midway through its Bay Area expansion, with two store openings over the last week and another two on the way.

By next month, Uniqlo will have five stores in the Bay Area. The Toyko-based retailer will open a new store at Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara on Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. The following week, on Nov. 1, Uniqlo will join Bay Street in Emeryville.

Uniqlo opened its first California store in San Francisco's Union Square a year ago in its first venture outside the East Coast. The retailer added a second location last week at San Mateo's Hillsdale Shopping Center, and a Uniqlo store opened Friday at Stonestown Galleria in western San Francisco.

Uniqlo, which is part of Japan-based Fast Retailing Group, the world's fourth-largest apparel retail company, plans to open 20 to 30 stores a year annually in the U.S. through 2020. Outside California, the retailer has plans to open another six stores on the East Coast by November. The company has become popular by quickly turning high fashion trends into lower-priced, mass-market goods, rivaling retails such as H&M.
