Series history: UCLA leads 49-31-1, but Cal has won the past three. The Bears' victory at the Rose Bowl in 2009 was coach Jeff Tedford's first road win over one of the Los Angeles schools.
Storylines: The Bruins have six players suspended for Saturday's game after last week's brawl at Arizona, including starting wide receiver Taylor Embree and starting nose tackle Cassius Marsh. ... This is the Bears' only road game during a four-game stretch against lower-tier conference teams. ... UCLA walk-on wide receiver Jerry Rice Jr., the son of the former 49ers Hall of Famer, is expected to make his college debut.
Injury update: Cal -- FB Eric Stephens (knee) and WR Kaelin Clay (academics) are out. UCLA -- WR Taylor Embree (suspension), WR Randall Carroll (suspension), WR Shaq Evans (suspension), WR Ricky Marvray (suspension) and DT Cassius Marsh (suspension) are out; OG Chris Ward (knee) is doubtful; FB Anthony Barr (knee) is probable.
Matchup to watch: UCLA's wide receivers against Cal's defensive backs. Because of the suspensions, the Bruins are going with inexperience at wide receiver. The Bears secondary should be able to contend with them. If not, something has gone terribly wrong.
