Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen will have ankle surgery and miss spring practice, Bears coach Jeff Tedford announced Wednesday via Twitter.
Tedford didn't explain what caused the injury, but Allen said over Twitter, "I messed up a ligaments and it'll come out the socket if I roll it again."
Tedford added that Allen, Cal's leading receiver last season, "will be back for summer workouts and be fully recovered for the season."
Allen led Cal with 80 receptions, 1,261 receiving yards and six touchdown catches. The junior is one of the top receivers in the Pac-12 Conference, if not the nation.
Allen is to have surgery on Thursday, according to Tedford's tweet.
