Golden Bears update: The top-seeded Bears (54-5), seeking a 12th trip to the College World Series, got a scare in the Berkeley regional last weekend, losing 3-2 to Arkansas before winning three straight. Coach Diane Ninemire said the team developed confidence in its ability to come from behind in its first meeting with Washington on March 30, when senior Jace Williams delivered a two-run, two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to produce a 2-1 win. ... Senior Frani Echavarria batted .600 and drove in eight runs in the regionals as opponents issued 13 walks to Pac-12 Player of the Year Valerie Arioto.
Huskies update: Washington (39-17) posted three shutout wins at the Seattle Regional but batted just .213 in those games. ... The Huskies were 32-1 and ranked No. 3 in the nation when they last visited Berkeley. Then they were swept by scores of 2-1, 5-3 and 6-4, triggering a stretch where they lost 15 of 18 in Pac-12 play, eventually finishing eighth in the conference. ... UW's top player is pitcher/first baseman Kaitlyn Inglesby, who is 19-10 with a 2.21 ERA and is batting .391 with 10 homers and 63 RBI. ... Victoria Hayward of Mountain View is batting .346.
