Former Stanford star Tony Azevedo and Ryan Bailey became the first men in U.S. history to qualify for four Olympics in water polo when coach Terry Schroeder announced the final roster Monday.
Four other Bay Area players joined Azevedo on the team headed to London: Stanford alums Layne Beaubien of Coronado, Peter Hudnut of Encino and Peter Varellas of Moraga and Cal graduate John Mann of Newport Beach.
Azevedo, Beaubien, Hudnut and Varellas helped the United States win a silver medal in Beijing four years ago. Mann, the 2006 college player of the year, will make his Olympic debut in London.
