SAN JOSE -- The Bowl Championship Series has two years left.
If you love it, enjoy it. If you hate it, then the semifinal format that will take effect following the 2014 season cannot come soon enough.
But don't expect the BCS to go down quietly. It's bound to cause more controversy, frustration, anxiety and outright outrage before going the way of the Bowl Coalition. Or the Dodo.
Projections for its penultimate season:
National championship game: No. 1 Louisiana State vs. No. 2 Oklahoma.
Comment: LSU is the best team. Oklahoma is a good team with a favorable schedule: Tough enough to impress voters, easy enough to produce a 12-0 regular season.
Rose Bowl: USC vs. Michigan
Comment: The Wolverines are thrilled to be back in Pasadena for the first time since the 2006 season. The Trojans had their sights on the national title game. Rose Bowl officials, meanwhile, are ecstatic.
Fiesta Bowl: Kansas State vs. Wisconsin
Comment: The Fiesta snatches up Kansas State to replace Big 12 champion Oklahoma, then adds the Big Ten's runner up — and there isn't an empty seat (or hotel room) remaining in the Valley of the Sun.
Sugar Bowl: Georgia vs. Oregon
Comment: Georgia replaces SEC champion LSU, then bowl officials jump at chance to select Oregon over Louisville. The Quack Attack takes Bourbon Street.
Orange Bowl: Florida State vs. Louisville
Comment: Only reason this would be worth watching on a national scale: If Florida State is undefeated but gets squeezed out of a berth in the NCG.
