Making his Pac-12 men's diving championships debut, Kristian Ipsen won the 1-meter title Thursday in Federal Way, Wash.

Ipsen, a U.S. Olympian from De La Salle High who didn't compete in the 2012 conference meet, had 442.15 points to beat Arizona State's Harrison Jones (437.35).

  • Freshman Elizabeth Pelton won the 200-yard individual medley -- edging defending NCAA champion and Cal teammate Caitlin Leverenz -- at the Pac-12 women's swimming and diving championships in Federal Way. The Bears were fourth with 384.5 points after seven events. Stanford was first at 491.5. Pelton was timed in 1 minute, 54.29 seconds, while senior Leverenz finished in 1:54.31.

    Cal's Catherine Breed (Amador Valley High) placed fourth in the 500 freestyle.

  • Marisa DeWames captured the 50-yard freestyle and led off San Jose State's victorious 200 freestyle relay as the Spartans moved within four points of first-place Northern Arizona at the halfway point of the WAC women's swimming and diving championships in San Antonio.

  • No. 16 Cal (5-5) rallied against No. 48 San Diego State (8-3) after losing the doubles point but ultimately fell 4-3 to the host Aztecs in men's tennis.

    Cal's Ben McLachlan beat Derek Siddiqui 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

    Horse racing

    Lady Aspen recorded her third win in her last four starts when she rallied to beat even-money favorite Luscious Lonna by a half-length in the $35,972 feature at Golden Gate Fields.

    The Jerry Hollendorfer-trained Lady Aspen finished 11/16 miles in 1:48.56 under William Antongeorgi III and paid $12 to win.
