ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Cal softball team was pushed to the brink of elimination Saturday when it lost to host Michigan 5-0 in the NCAA softball tournament. The Bears will have to beat the winner of the Central Michigan-Valparaiso game later this afternoon to avoid going home.
Two walks, two errors and a passed ball led to a three-run second for the Wolverines, who are seeded eighth in the tournament.
The Bears collected five hits, two by junior Ashley Decker, and three walks, but they failed to score against Michigan pitcher Sara Diresenga, who improved to 28-6 on the season.
Starter Jolene Henderson (31-10) took the loss for Cal. She worked three innings before being relieved by Nisa Ontiveros.
