Mexico's most storied team, affectionately known as Chivas, is coming to Spartan Stadium in an all-Mexican doubleheader July 6 that kicks off a summer of international soccer for the Bay Area.
Club Deportivo Guadalajara -- aka Chivas -- is scheduled to face Pumas of Mexico City, Soccer United Marketing announced Wednesday. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with Cruz Azul, also of Mexico City, facing Monarcas Morelia.
Tickets will go on sale Thursday at the Spartan Stadium box office or at www.ticketmaster.com.
Also this summer the Earthquakes will play host to English club Norwich City on July 20 at Buck Shaw Stadium and European giants Juventus and Everton will meet July 31 at AT&T Park.
Stanford pitcher Mark Appel (Monte Vista High) was a first-team All-America choice by the NCBWA. Last week he was taken by the Houston Astros with the No. 1 overall pick of the MLB draft.
