PAICINES -- There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries after a magnitude 4.0 quake struck Sunday evening about 20 miles east of Salinas.

The quake hit at about 9:25 p.m. and was centered near Highway 25, north of Pinnacles National Monument. Residents reported feeling it as far away as San Jose, according to the U.S. Geological Service.

Dispatchers for police and fire agencies in Santa Clara County said they had not received any reports of damage or injuries as of 10 p.m.
