Monterey County probationer arrested on drug charges
A man on probation out of Monterey County was arrested Friday by members of the Santa Cruz County Anti Crime Team, who received a tip that he was selling drugs in Watsonville, authorities said.
Agents located Anthony Whitney, 42, in the parking lot of a donut shop on East Lake Avenue and Lincoln Street about 12:20 p.m. When they approached him, he drove away in reverse, nearly striking one agent, authorities said.
Whitney was arrested and found to be in possession of a small amount of crystal methamphetamine, agents said. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on charges of probation violation, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
Whitney was on probation under Monterey County's new Post Release Community Supervision program, which was created as part of state prisoner realignment.
