The accident on tracks along the 23600 block of Pine Street was reported shortly before 9:40 p.m. Saturday, and three Metrolink passengers who complained of unspecified injuries were taken to a hospital to be checked out, a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher said.
A woman who had been in the big rig told SCVNews.com that she and her partner, who had been driving, were from out of town and got lost on Pine Street. She said they were trying to get the rig turned around, and her partner got out of the cab as the train bore down on it.
The tractor-trailer was carrying new Lexus vehicles.
Metrolink No. 271 was northbound from Union Station, with about 220 passengers and due to arrive in Newhall at 9:40 p.m., when the accident happened near the Saugus Train Station & Museum. Metro sent buses to the ferry stranded train riders to their destinations.
The collision caused about 100 gallons of diesel fuel to leak out of the
truck, a county fire dispatcher said.
