Robbers pistol-whip victim
Two men wearing bandanas and armed with a handgun pistol-whipped a man at a service station-market on Highway 68 and Hitchcock Road outside Salinas on Friday.
Sheriff's deputies said the robbers entered the Casillas Brothers Market about 3:20 p.m. and pointed the gun at the man. It was not know whether he was an employee or a customer.
During the attack, the gun discharged and a slug went into the store's ceiling, deputies said.
The robbers took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled, possibly in a Silver Honda Accord, driving west on Hitchcock Road.
The injured man was treated and released, deputies said.
About 10 minutes before the robbery, two men wearing ski masks robbed Bagel Bakery at 969 W. Alisal Street in Salinas.
Police and sheriff's deputies are investigating if the two robberies are related.
Raid nets 230 pounds of pot, three guns
Sheriff's deputies said 230 pounds of processed marijuana, three firearms and 99 growing marijuana plants were seized in a Friday raid on Echo Valley Road that netted three suspects.
Booked into Monterey County Jail on drug charges were Pablo Bautista, 26, Marco Hernandez, 31, and Jose Martin-Cruz, 24, deputies said.
Members of the county narcotics and gang task forces along with a SWAT team served a search warrant about 7 a.m. at 235 Echo Valley Road, a Sheriff's Office press release said.
A shotgun, rifle and handgun were discovered during the raid.
Soto Street shooting
Police said a man treated at a hospital late Thursday was probably hit by gunfire about 8:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Soto Street.
Police responded to reports of shots in the area, but didn't find signs of a shooting.
An hour later, police learned of a man being treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds. The victim is expected to recover, police said.
Police said it wasn't known if the shooting was gang-related.
Man, 18, arrested
on weapons charges
Seaside police said a young man was arrested late Thursday on firearm and gang charges.
Police said officers contacted a known gang member in a vehicle near San Lucas Street and Amador Avenue about 9:30 p.m.
The man tried to a conceal a firearm in front of officers and was apprehended, police said.
Enrique Velasco, 18, was booked into Monterey County Jail, police said.
