Holiday craft fair Saturday
A holiday arts and crafts fair will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Bonny Doon Presbyterian Church, 1492 Pine Flat Road.
Artists include Mary Jo Koch of Bonny Doon Lavender Farm. There will be a chili cook-off, food and raffles.

Memorial service Saturday for Cal Fire battalion chief
A memorial service for Cal Fire Battalion Chief Rob Van Wormer will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at HP Pavilion in San Jose.
Van Wormer, 47, died at Dominican Hospital Oct. 28 after he lost consciousness at a Santa Cruz restaurant. He led fire prevention efforts for Cal Fire's Santa Clara unit and had been working on an investigation in Santa Cruz County before his death.
A funeral procession will start at 300 Curtner Ave. in San Jose at 10:15 a.m. About 2,000 people are expected at the arena at 525 W. Santa Clara St., according to Cal Fire.
Condor expert's lecture scheduled for Sunday
Katie Lannon, who previously worked to reintroduce endangered California condors into the wild, will talk about the history of the Condor Reintroduction Program and management efforts in the Ventana Wilderness.
Lannon's talk is set for 3 p.m.
She will cover successes and threats and report on the free-flying flock in Big Sur. Ventana Wildlife Society has been involved in wildlife conservation in Monterey County since 1977, and began releasing California condors in Big Sur in 1997.
Post-Halloween pumpkin drop from airplanes on Sunday
Pilots will celebrate the fall season with the annual post-Halloween Pumpkin Drop from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Watsonville Municipal Airport.
Volunteer pilots will take young and old "pumpkin-droppers" into the air, where they'll attempt to hit a ground target with their gourd. Prizes will be awarded for pumpkins landing closest to the target. The flights are free. Participants may bring their own uncarved pumpkin or purchase one at the event for $10.
Flight instructors also will be on hand to demonstrate basic aviation skills and answer questions. A raffle will be held.

Red Cross volunteers head to storm ravaged New Jersey
Sixty-three American Red Cross volunteers from Monterey Bay and the Bay Area have been sent to New Jersey to help victims of superstorm Sandy.
Friday, the Red Cross noted that Gwen Chiaramonte of Felton was sent to New Jersey, as well as Kate McCarthy-Lewis and Camilla Boolootian of Santa Cruz.
Volunteers have set up 12 mobile kitchens and 97 Red Cross shelters in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and Ohio.
