Emergency preparedness workshop set

Carmel will hold an emergency preparedness workshop at 5:30 p.m. Monday to help residents get ready for the winter storm season.

Members of the Carmel Police and Public Works departments, Monterey Fire Department, the Monterey Bay Area chapter of the American Red Cross and Pacific Gas & Electric Co. will give presentations.

The workshop, expected to last an hour, will be held in City Council chambers at Carmel City Hall, Monte Verde Street between Ocean and Seventh Avenues.

The Alliance on Aging will hold the following seminars on Medicare Part D for 2013:

· 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Sally Griffin Senior Center, 700 Jewell Ave., Pacific Grove.

· 11 a.m. to noon (1 to 2 p.m. in Spanish) Wednesday at King City Library, 402 Broadway, King City.

· 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 13 at Oldemeyer Center, 986 Hilby Ave., Seaside.

· 5 to 6 p.m. (6 to 7 p.m. in Spanish) Nov. 14 at Greenfield Library, 315 El Camino Real, Greenfield.

GOP women to hear

about Monterey Downs

The Monterey Peninsula Republican Women Federated club will hold its lunch at noon Thursday at Rancho Cañada Golf Club, 4860 Carmel Valley Road.

Brian Boudreau and Beth Palmer of Monterey Downs will talk about the equestrian-themed project.

Cost is $22 for members and $25 for others. Reservation deadline is Monday.
