Some Department of Water and Power customers near Los Angeles International Airport were without power Sunday after a car collided into a utility pole Sunday morning, a DWP spokesman said.

Crews expected to fix the outage by about 8 p.m., said Gale Harris, spokeswoman for DWP. According to DWP's Twitter feed, about 800 customers were without power early Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. when a man driving a four-door vehicle drove off the road and into a group of utility poles at the 7800 block of West Imperial Highway, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The driver, who was conscious after the accident, was taken by El Segundo paramedics to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, El Segundo Police Sgt. Hugo Perez said.

Both El Segundo and Los Angeles Fire responded to the scene, Humphrey said, where fighters quickly put out a small fire. Humphrey said the car had been overturned.

The driver told emergency responders that a woman had been in the vehicle, Humphrey said, but police and firefighters found no one else in a 15-minute search of the area.
