Donations sought for troops overseas
Operation Care and Comfort is collecting donations for Christmas care packages to be sent on Nov. 14 to troops deployed overseas.
Preferred items include small unbreakable Christmas ornaments, Christmas lights, small Christmas wreaths that can be decorated, watch caps, Christmas cards and letters of support, blank Christmas cards for the troops to send home, blank CD's, DVD's, small games, comic books, and fleece blankets.
In addition, Operation Care and Comfort will be adopting military families for Christmas under its "Adopt a Military Family" program. Cash donations are tax deductible.

Deadline for drop off or pickup for the christmas packing is Thursday.
Expect delays on Holman Highway
Road work is in progress on Holman Highway west of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula to replace a drainage culvert.
Construction hours are 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday. No work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

This year's theme is "Doughboys and Donuts," with a history talk on the many civilian and reserve officer training camps that operated on the Monterey Peninsula between the two world wars. Featured will be 1920s illustrations of cavalry and field artillery at Camp Del Monte by California artist Jo Mora, as well as exhibits of military uniforms and items from 1911 to 1940 in the former Army veterinary clinic building.
Veterans are encouraged to wear uniforms or caps reflecting their service and free coffee and donuts from Red's Donuts will be served.
