LOS ANGELES - A man attacked the driver of an MTA bus near LAX today, and passengers came to the driver's aid, the transit agency reported.
The disturbance on Aviation Boulevard north of 111th Street was reported at 2:18 a.m. after a man started hitting the driver on the head and several passengers tried to pull him away, said Rick Jager, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
"The bus operator hit the brakes and the suspect and passengers hit the windshield," he said.
After Airport Police arrived, paramedics transported the assailant and some of the good Samaritans -- how many was not immediately reported -- to a hospital for treatment of mild to moderate injuries from hitting the windshield, Jager said.
The man who attacked the driver will be booked on suspicion of attempted carjacking, he said.
