Controlled burn set for Tuesday
The state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection will conduct a controlled burn on Old Stage Road at Crazy Horse Road beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Smoke from the 1,000-acre burn is expected to be visible from the the Salinas Valley, Monterey Peninsula, North County, San Juan Bautista and Hollister, CalFire officials said.
Two helicopters, 16 fire engines, two bulldozers and four handcrews will be on hand to control the blaze, firefighters said.
Tall ship to stop in Moss Landing
The tall ship Lady Washington will stop in Moss Landing next Tuesday and remain through the following week.
The official tall ship of Washington State, Lady Washington's visit will include educational programs for students, as well as sailing excursions and tours for the public.

The vessel is a historically accurate interpretation of 18th century ships that explored the west coast of North America. It has appeared in several films, including 2003's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."
Turkey Trot coming Nov. 22 to Toro Park
The second Salinas Valley Turkey Trot 5K run/walk will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 22 at Toro Regional Park.
The race route is a 3.1-mile loop.

Veterans Day observance is Nov. 11
Veterans Day activities will be held starting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday by the eternal flame at Seaside City Hall.
The event is hosted by the city and American Legion Post 591.
