Man shot while standing in parking lot
A man was shot and wounded in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1000 block of John Street Monday afternoon, police reported.
Police said multiple shots were fired in the neighborhood shortly after 3 p.m. and the 25-year-old victim was hit twice by bullets, once in the lower back and once in the buttocks.
His wounds were not considered life-threatening, police said, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the victim told investigators he was standing in the parking lot when someone came up from behind and opened fire.
He was unable to describe his assailant, police said, adding that the shooting is believed to be gang-related.
Auto parts store worker robbed
An auto parts store employee was robbed at gunpoint in his workplace parking lot Monday evening, police reported.
Police said an employee of O'Reilly's Auto Parts, 610 Williams Road, walked out of the business shortly before 5 p.m. to make a deposit, and as he got into his car, a gray Jeep Cherokee pulled up and blocked his path.
A passenger got out of the Jeep, demanded money at gunpoint, grabbed it from the victim, got back in and was driven away eastbound toward Bardin Road, police said.
Gunman robs service station worker
A female attendant at a Salinas service station was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night, police said.
The robbery took place shortly after 8 p.m. at a Valero station at 47 John St., police said.
The male robber, who wore an Oakland A's cap and a black hoodie, ran off after the robbery with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
Suspect in hit-and-run injured in crash
A suspected hit-and-run driver was flown to a San Jose hospital after her car struck a parked Ford Mustang at East Alisal and Kern streets, Salinas police said Monday.
The hit-and-run occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers found a Toyota Camry suspected of being involved at a nearby motel. The driver, Andrea Gomez, 34, suffered moderate head injuries and was taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center.
Police said she was driving with a suspended license and likely will be charged with allegedly driving under the influence.
Argument leads to two arrests, pot, gun
A Salinas patrolman intrigued by an argument between two men outside a motel room led to two arrests and the seizure of several ounces of marijuana, police said.
The officer saw the argument shortly before noon Sunday at a motel in the 2100 block of North Main Street and investigated. One of the men was on probation, and a search of the room turned up a handgun and the marijuana.
Rudy Alfaro, 31, and Michael Garza, 31, were taken to Monterey County Jail on drug and firearm charges, police said.
Fire destroys garage and home Monday
A fire that started in an attached garage spread to a house Monday afternoon, destroying both buildings, firefighters reported.
The blaze broke out at 2 p.m. at Center and Jolon streets, the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
Four fire engines and a CalFire chief responded and the fire was contained shortly before 3 p.m.
No one was injured, firefighters said, but both buildings were a total loss. Cause of the fire is under investigation, CalFire said.
