City Controller Wendy Greuel, Councilman Eric Garcetti and former prosecutor Kevin James were among the major candidates for mayor to take out their nominating papers this week in the March 5 election for mayor.

The three were among 10 candidates to pull nominating petitions to try to qualify for the ballot.

Also on Monday, City Attorney Carmen Trutanich and private attorney Greg Smith took out their papers for the city attorney's race. Also, private attorney Noel Weiss took out nominating papers.

In the race for controller, Councilman Dennis Zine took out his nominating petition, as did disability advocate Analila Joya.

In San Fernando Valley area city council races, investigator Steven Pesberg, technology administrators Joseph Mauro and small business owner Elizabeth Badger filed for the 3rd City Council District in the West Valley.

In the 5th Council District including Encino, incumbent Councilman Paul Koretz took out his papers and potential challengers include eductor Yuval Daniel Kremer and sales representative Frank Grande.
