Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a bank robbery suspect after a chase through the Antelope Valley that ended on a Lancaster street.
The man apparently fired at deputies before being shot, a Sheriff's Department spokesman told KCAL-TV.
The chase started after a robbery at a Bank of America branch in Saugus about 9:15 a.m., said Deputy Guillermina Saldana, a Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.
Deputies followed an SUV north on the 14 freeway and into Lancaster. Saldana said there apparently were no passengers.
The fleeing suspect stopped at Desert Springs Drive and 10th Street West.
The Associated Press reported a man could be seen on television coverage getting out of the vehicle as deputies trained guns on him.
But then he got back in and closed the door. A deputy or deputies fired through the windshield of the vehicle.
The man had repeatedly refused to show his hands before he returned to the car, and he apparently fired first at deputies, who shot back, sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker told KCAL.
