Detectives are working to identify the vandals who damaged 37 vehicles last week outside Palos Verdes High School in Palos Verdes Estates, police said Friday.

The vandalism occurred three days before eight Palos Verdes High School students were arrested on suspicion of vandalizing the bleachers at Peninsula High School in Rolling Hills Estates, painting them red on the day of the big rivalry football game between the two schools.

Police, however, said it was unknown if there was any connection between the crimes.

Students on Oct. 30 discovered the damage to their cars parked on Via Pacheco, Epping Road and Cloyden Road, streets that surround the Palos Verdes Estates campus.

Palos Verdes Estates police Capt. Tony Best said it appeared that somebody used some sort of instrument to walk along and scratch one vehicle after another on their driver's side doors.

Police asked anyone with information about the vandalism to call Sgt. Steve Barber at 310-378-4211.
