Book study kicks off at Unity Temple
"Make Me an Instrument" by Kent Nerburn will be the focus of a new book study at Unity Temple.
The weekly group, lead by new Community Minister Margaret Flick, will discuss the book from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sundays, beginning this Sunday and running through Dec. 30. Semmes to be installed into ministry
A Service of Installation to call Suzanne Semmes into a Community Ministry at First Congregational Church will be held in the church sanctuary at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Semmes was ordained some years ago as a Unitarian Universalist minister in New England but will transfer her ministerial standing into the United Church of Christ.
She will continue her ministries with Hospice of Santa Cruz County, Dominican Hospital and Red Oak Services. First Congregational Church is at 900 High St., Santa Cruz. For details, call 426-2010.
Annual boutique slated for Nov. 17

Classes at Temple Beth El
Temple Beth El offers a variety of adult education classes that are open to the public. Each section is $60 for members, $75 for the public and free for members of three years or less.

The Holidays and Life Cycles: Learn about the Jewish holiday cycle and life-cycle events, its connection to agriculture in ancient Israel, and how the Jewish community marks significant life events such as brit milah, bar/bat mitzvah and weddings. Rabbi Paula Marcus will lead the classes, which will be held from 7-8 p.m. each Thursday through Jan. 10.

Thanksgiving Basket Raffle Nov. 18
St. Vincent de Paul Church in Davenport is hosting their annual Thanksgiving Basket Raffle on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. People will get a chance to win a large holiday food basket, as well as gift certificates to Ristorante Italiano, El Jardin Restaurant, Crow's Nest or Shadowbrook Restaurants, D'Anna's Deli, Taqueria La Cabaña and other gifts and prizes.
The price to enter is $1 per ticket, six for $5 or 12 for $10. Tickets also available at the church after Mass, or at the Shrine of St. Joseph at 544 West Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz. Participants don't need to be present to win the raffle.
