Graduate students from Cal State Long Beach are working with parents from four downtown Long Beach elementary schools to host the conference as part of an effort to work with low-income families and identify and address community concerns.
The goal is to encourage parents to be more involved in their child's education and their communities. The event will be held at Stevenson Elementary School, 515 Lime Ave., on Nov. 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The event will include participants from Stevenson, International, Roosevelt and Burnett elementary schools. Students and parents will host workshops on bullying and cultural diversity, volunteerism and civic engagement, public safety and health, nutrition and more.
