Pomona residents interested in serving their community are invited to apply for a seat on one of various city boards or commissions.

Commissioners are residents of the city who are appointed by City Council members to a board or commission and serve on a volunteer basis, according to a statement from the city.

Residents with a strong interest in the community are being sought to be considered for vacancies or reappointments on the following commissions.

Seats are open on the Community Life, Cultural Arts, and Historic Preservation commissions; the Library Board of Trustees; the Parks and Recreation Commission; the Planning Commission; and the Board of Parking Place Commissioners, the statement said.

Community Life Commissioners have the job of fostering better city-resident relations.

The Cultural Arts Commission promotes the arts and coordinates cultural activities within the city including activities relating to the community's artistic and cultural heritage. In addition the body designates historical monuments in the City.

Historic Preservation Commissioners recommend historic landmark designation, application, enforcement, and education of the community.

The Library Board of Trustees has the authority to administer and govern the Pomona Public Library, subject to the City Council's approval of the library's budget.

The Parks and Recreation Commission serves as an advisory body in all matters pertaining to city parks, street trees and public recreation.

The Planning Commission is responsible for making discretionary decisions in compliance with the city's general plan and zoning ordinance. For more information on the Planning Commission call the Planning Division at 909-620-2191.

Members of the Board of Parking Place Commissioners represent the downtown business community in its effort to maintain and improve the parking quality for that area.
