A 31-year-old Downey man was killed Saturday night in Torrance after the person's vehicle was struck head-on by another vehicle that drifted over the center divider on Artesia Boulevard.

The driver was traveling eastbound on Artesia Boulevard around 11:40 p.m. Saturday when a westbound vehicle, driven by an unidentified 53-year-old man, lost control, crossed the center divider and collided with the eastbound vehicle near the Van Ness Avenue intersection, according to the Torrance Police Department.

The 31-year-old driver, Gustavo Pizarro, was pronounced dead by paramedics. The 53-year-old driver was in good condition at a local hospital, according to Torrance police.

Artesia Boulevard between Haas and Casimir avenues was closed to traffic for about four hours after the accident due to an investigation.
