Pedestrian struck by car

One of two Salinas men crossing a city street was struck by a car Saturday night.

Police said the accident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. when the men were crossing North Main Street outside a crosswalk near Massa Street and a 23-year-old man was struck by a southbound car.

The victim was thrown onto the windshield and suffered severe injuries to his head and body, police said, but his friend was not hit.

The victim was flown to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police: 2 men robbed massage parlor

A Salinas massage parlor was robbed by two men Saturday night, police reported.

Police said the men came into the Ruby Massage Parlor, 14 Maple St., at 8:20 p.m., one of them armed with a baseball bat.

They demanded money from a woman and smashed some of the furnishings with the bat, police said, then took the woman's laptop and purse as well as cash from the business, and ran.

3 brush fires put out Sunday morning

Fire scorched more than an acre of brush off San Juan Road Sunday morning, the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.

Three small fires broke out about 11:30 a.m., CalFire firefighters said, the largest an acre in size. Five engines responded and the fires were put out with no damage to buildings or injuries to persons, firefighters said, adding that the cause is under investigation.
