FoodMaxx grand opening set

A ribbon-cutting and grand opening are planned at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday for FoodMaxx, which is replacing Save Mart at 1465 Main St.

There will be refreshments, a chance to meet store manager John Lewis and corporate managers, and a presentation of $1,000 to Kimberly Ferm, executive director of the Pajaro Valley Shelter Services, which serves homeless women, children, and families. Save Mart's giant shopping cart, Big Red, which is more than 12 feet tall and weighs 3,000 pounds, will be on hand 8-11 a.m.

The store has bilingual signs, a choice of self-checkout or manned register, discount prices, and a deli, full-service bakery and pharmacy.

Talk on attitude set Wednesday

Business Professionals of Santa Cruz County presents "Kickstart Your Business" at 8 a.m. Wednesday at The Abbey, 350 Mission St. Michael Jacque, vice president at Al Frank Asset Management, will talk about a 10-step process to re-design your attitude about your business. Think Local First updates race

Here is the update on the Think Local First County of Santa Cruz Great Money Race. The race, which runs through Nov. 30, aims to see how much local business can be generated in a month by $500.

New Leaf Community Market spent its $100 at Good Times, which spent it at Well Within, which spent it at Hula's Island Grill. Central Coast Uniform spent its $100 check at Erik's DeliCafe, and burger. spent its $100 at Chefworks.

Logos Books & Records still has a $100 check to spend, and so does New Leaf Community Market.

All five $100 checks, donated by local financial institutions, must be spent at one of the 640 Think Local First member businesses to keep the money circulating locally. The Sentinel will provide updates Tuesday through Saturday.

CAPITOLA

Chamber food drive planned

The Capitola-Soquel Chamber of Commerce plans a networking lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Paradise Beach Grille in Capitola Village.

Second Harvest Food Bank representatives will speak about the 25th annual Holiday Food Drive.

Cost is $25 for Capitola-Soquel Chamber members; $30 for prospective members. Seating is limited. Advance payment is required; call 475-6522.
