Fire destroys Zayante home
A fire broke out a few moments after midnight Sunday, destroying a home on Visitar Street in the Zayante area, firefighters said.
Zayante Fire Protection District officials could not be reached to comment Monday, but Cal Fire Capt. Josh Agustin said the home was burned to the ground but that the fire was stopped from reaching neighboring homes and wildland.
Agustin said the home was not easily accessible. He said no one was inside when the fire broke out about 12:20 a.m.
Visitar Street is not far from Lompico Road and Lake Boulevard.
Felton, Ben Lomond and Scotts Valley fire departments also assisted, he said.
Teens arrested on drug charges
Two teens were arrested Saturday night after a deputy pulled over the car they were in on Varni Road and uncovered several different drugs, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said.
Anthony Valdivia, 19, and David Fiattarone, 18, had 76 Ecstasy pills, 2.5 grams of cocaine, 34 tabs of LSD, 1 gram of methamphetamine and less than an ounce of marijuana, Sgt. Robin Mitchell said.
There was also evidence of drug sales in the vehicle, Mitchell said.
They were pulled over for vehicle code violations, she said.
Both teens were taken to County Jail, but were no longer in custody Monday, jail records show.
